The Perfect Witches Broom

There are a lot of DIY witch brooms to have displayed for your home or Halloween decor, and for me I thought why not make my own with the existing cinnamon brooms for the past season. You have to understand these cinnamon brooms are nostalgic as they have been around forever and were always the first indicator in our home growing up that the seasons were changing. So naturally I buy a bunch every year. Their scent sadly doesn't last, but that can be easily remedies with cinnamon essential oils. I prefer to buy the brand, the OG, A Touch of Country Magic essential oil. I sprinkle that on the faint smelling brooms and they are easily revived. Last year before I decided to revive a few I thought, let me make one big one with the materials I have at home. You need atleast 4 to make a lush broom and a strong base to attach everything to, but you could pretty much fasten it all with materials from you home. Below is the list of materials and steps, plus the REEL to watch for a DIY video!
MATERIALS |
The Broom Base: can either be a wooden dowl or a tree branch from your lawn (or neighbor's lawn)
4-5 Cinnamon Brooms: Truthfully the more you add, the more drama. You can order these online or pick them up from your local grocer!
Twine -Floral Wire- Zip Ties: You need to easily fasten and secure the mutliple brooms. I didn't have any zip ties on hand and used floral wire, however the fastess option is for sure zipties. Twine will look nice and rustic but more work than the other options.
Ribbon - Fabric: This not only adds character to your new full broom, but hides potential floral wire or zip ties that take away from the primitive look we are going for.
Optional Charms: I made a couple seasons ago a witchy fall charm necklace and have extra celestial brass pieces, so I added them to the broom to dress it up and for me it gave it just enough whimsey. If you want to go ham on decorating the broom I highly suggest looking at the witch shops on instagram as they do some incredible layers of decor on them.
DIRECTIONS Easy as 1-2-3 |
Start with untying all of the fastenings on your brooms, then set those aside.
Next place about two- three inches of your broom pieces to the base of your chosen broom stick.
Begin to work around the stick and evenly wrap with the cinnamon material.
Fasten when you have reached the placement and fullness you want. The fuller you make it, the more durable it will be and easily lean against the wall or corner you want.
Add ribbon or fabric strips to wrap the fastenings. Hot glue gun to secure placement ( I didn't cause I was lazy but so far it's still good).
Optional, add decor accessories. The sky's the limit on this one. Remember you can make this as Halloween vibes or Harvest vibes as you want. I love to keep mine simple so I can display it longer before the winter holidays.
It's one of those DIY's that are quick, give a great result with very little effort. So if you want to scratch the itch for fall season DIY- Start HERE!
