How we gathered, what we swapped, and how you can host one too.

There is something sacred about women gathering around a table. Not for performance nor for perfection, but for connection.

At the start of this year, I felt a quiet pull to bring back monthly meet-ups at The Sugar Cottage (the original cottage my husband built in the backyard) where we could share what our hands make and enjoy each other’s company without rush. The previous year we had gathered for "GIRL DINNER", but this year I wanted something different that tapped into our creativity. So we began with something simple.

A Potluck Farmers’ Market.

The Concept

Ten women RSVP’d. Each brought ten handmade items.

By the end of the afternoon, everyone left with a basket filled with new treasures, one from each home represented.

Equal parts thoughtful, practical, and beautiful.

No pressure to be perfect. Only an invitation to participate.

What Filled the Table

Every contribution reflected the maker behind it, and I loved seeing personalities come through.

We shared:

  • cold pressed juice

  • two varieties of compound butter

  • olive oil & rosemary chili infusion

  • honey onion cough syrup

  • yogurt

  • granola

  • purse charms (watch Laura's reel here to get a closer look)

  • bookmarks & page holders

  • A flower bar

Some included recipe notes or how-to cards, which made each item feel like a tiny apprenticeship in someone else’s craft.

The Setup (and how easy it really is)

I kept the hosting simple and used what I had.

Baskets, Wooden trays, A rustic market sign made from brown butcher paper.

I layered everything with soft gauze cloth in sage and green, hung a burlap banner, added paper stars, and let the handmade goods become the real decoration.

That’s the secret: the table styles itself when everyone contributes .

Guests also brought small dishes to share, so we nibbled throughout the afternoon while we swapped and sipped.

Why We Started at 2PM on a Saturday

We began at 2 in the afternoon, which turned out to be perfect.

It allowed everyone the morning to bake, prep, label, and package their items without stress. Then they could arrive relaxed, ready to visit, snack, and enjoy. Being that it was hosted on a Saturday, actually set up our Sunday morning breakfast quite well! I also like the idea of not intturupting everyones day of rest (Sunday).

No rushing. No pressure.

My Favorite Moments

Watching everyone browse the table.

Sharing what they made. Arrangeing florals, clipping charms onto purses. Stacking jars. Asking, “how did you make this?”

There was pride, curiosity, generosity.

The kind of magic that only happens when women feel empowered to share their creations.

Want to Host One Yourself? Here’s What I Learned

It is far easier than you think.

Here’s the rhythm I’ll keep following:

Send invitations about a month ahead

People love time to dream, plan, and try new recipes or crafts.

Ask for a final RSVP halfway

This gives everyone the headcount so they know how many to make.

Keep the setup simple

Baskets, trays, a cloth, maybe a sign. The items or theme will do the rest.

Choose a relaxed time

Mid-afternoon means no one is cooking/crafting at midnight the night before.

Focus on connection, not production

You are building relationships, not inventory.

What Happens Next

At the end of our time together, we talked about how beautiful it would be to let this evolve into something regular.

A rhythm. A club. A circle of makers.

Starting next time, we’ll begin incorporating themes and light activities and also house swaps for hosting.

And I am so excited to share that our next gathering will center around: WELLNESS

I can already imagine herbal blends, nourishing foods, natural remedies, papered goods, crystal and calming rituals.

What I’m Carrying in My Heart

A reminder that opening your home doesn’t require grandeur, just intention.

The premise of this club will always have room for women who want to create, share, and belong. If you’ve been craving community like this, maybe this is your sign to start one of your own 🤍

And if you’re local, I hope to see you at the next table.
